100 Famous Japanese Mountains: Kyuya Fukada's Iconic Peaks

Here are the 100 peaks chosen by mountaineer and author Kyuya Fukada for his classic book '100 Famous Japanese Mountains' (Nihon Hyakumeizan), arranged from north to south. His selection criteria were grace, history, and distinct personality. As a rule, he included mountains over 1,500 meters that he had summited himself—with exceptions for Mount Tsukuba (877m) and Mount Kaimon (924m) due to their striking presence despite their lower elevation. This isn't a walking route, but an overview to trace how these iconic peaks shape the Japanese archipelago.
